Creativity, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Leadership and Passion
|- What do these topics have in commen? Come to DTU and hear more.|
As a member of the Network you have the opportunity to attend the lecture by distinguished Professor of Engineering Lester Gerhardt from the prestigious Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at DTU on April 21.
Creativity, innovation, entrepreneurship, leadership and passion are seemingly unrelated topics but will be discussed with an attempt to integrate some common aspects shared by them all. How these are defined, what characteristics are indicators of each, how are these further developed, how is success to be evaluated are all questions to be addressed.
Using the speaker’s own experiences, he will explore the subject by using real examples-the development of several of his students who have become very successful entrepreneurs, were and remain unusually creative and innovative, and have become leaders in their field having these characteristics.
Audience participation will be encouraged to help all of us learn about the early discovery of these interrelated types of ‘talent’, and how they are best cultivated. Together we will try to uncover if such characteristics are ‘born or bred’.
Dr. Lester Gerhardt has an extensive combined industrial and academic career. His combined academic and industrial work has had global impact for many decades. Dr. Gerhardt was a delegate to the Scientific Affairs Division of NATO and on the International Advisory Board of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). He also served on and Chaired the A*STAR Science Advisory Board in Singapore among other international consultancies. This year he was invited to serve on the Advisory Board to help create the newly formed Aquicum Institute of Technology in Budapest with the first cohort of students attending classes in the summer, 2010. At Rensselaer, Lester was co-founder of the Global Engineering Education Exchange Program, now in its 15th year. In 2008 he was instrumental in creating and implementing the Rensselaer Education Across Cultural Horizons (REACH) Program, the goal of which is to require an international experience of all undergraduates.
